The NH-U12 is very quiet but I should imagine any of those big ones that use a 12cm fan will be just as quiet (and I've heard the tuniq can be run without a fan at all). The hexus HSF review a few months ago didn't give too good thermal results for the Noctua either so you'll probably run a lot cooler with one of the other big ones too

What's wrong with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775), is it just too long in the tooth now, or has much better come along?.

However, you can just ask Scan, they will do a complete custom build for you (assuming they agree it'd work, this'll took a little while to get checked) for a fee based on the complexity.

I think Gladiator Computers will quote you a price for a complete system too. I know you can ask them to switch various components in their default builds. But anyway, it doesn't seem like he'll need this. A self build will be a good learning experience.

You can try Cypowersystems UK, if you really dont want to build yourself. I think your spec will cost about £1250 inc 3year warranty and delivery with them. The good thing about them is that they have large choice of components to choose from when it comes to customising a pc.

Putting all the pieces together is a fairly straight forward affair. If you've already replaced a card you can already see what all the bits look like and where they go. Just think of the money you will save.
