    Raid Drives

Just to check, if you want to set up a raid array do the drives you use have to be the same (capacity/ make etc) might seen strange but i read somewhere they do and just made me unsure.

depends on what you want to do

if you want to stripe they can be different.

If you want to mirror they CAN be different but you'll find it easier to use the same as the bigger one will always reduce in size to the smaller one if you do it at a physical disk level.
    It is Inevitable.....

It used to be that the drives had to be identical in every way, right down to the same firmware version. this is not the case now.

Most contollers (especially the cheaper firmware based ones) will let you use different models and even manufacturers. They use the lowest common denomonator in size though, so you will loose space on larger drives.
