Help with some new hardware pieces for a new computer.

I am primarily gonna be playing AoC and/or WAROnline if AoC sucks:juggle:


The stuff I need is a motherboard,cpu,gfx card and ram. What I got so far, and I have no clue about this stuff is :

Asus GeForce 8800GTS 640MB

Asus Asus P5K, Intel P35, LGA775

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850

TwinMOS DDR2 PC6400 2048MB Dual Pack

And I bought Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.

Any help would be appreciated, give me a completly new setup or just adjust the one I made.

All looks fine.
Another 2gb of RAM wont go amiss though if the budget allows for it.

Decent PSU is a must aswell.

I tought 4gb ram was enough ? And I got a 750W Thermaltake PSU.

Either get the 320mb 8800GTS or just go all out and get a GTX or, if you fancy a gamble, go for some HD2900xt action. The gains when using higher resolution that where previously stated, i think, where down to a driver issue which has now been resolved.

So the 320mb card is better ? How ? hehe

if u need alittle extra cash u can get a e6750 for £50 less than the e6850 maybe add that to ram since your using 64bit..

i think the extra 640mb edition might be better for higher res but will probably perform the same or very little better than the 320mb.

4gb is plenty mate u dont need more than that dont worry.

As i said earlier... the 640 was perviously thought to help with higher res but im sure i read somewhere that this is no longer the case thanks to to updated drivers (if i have imagined this or been incorrectly informed please correct me). How this will change when more demanding DX10 games are released we will see but i cant see the point in spending 240-300 on a graphics card that MIGHT perform better when it seems a 320 one for £180 does the same job.

More graphics memory does help at higher resolutions but the 320mb 8800gts is fine at up to 1050 x 1680 - im running just that. It might even handle higher than that ok - what resolution will you be using?

As mentioned above, unless your running a high res monitor its hard to justify spending £50+ more for a card that is identical apart from doubling the memory.

Basically the 640mb gives very small performance increases over the 320 even at high res with the latest drivers.

If you tell us which monitor you have or your anticipated gaming resolution there will be less danger of us heading off at a tangent here.

With regard to the RAM, 2 x 2Gb sticks tend to have slightly slower timings than 4 x 1Gb sticks at the moment. If you are not into extreme overclocking, Scan have 2 x 1Gb matched kits of Corsair XMS2 DDR2-667 RAM. Two of these kits will only set you back around £100 for your 4Gb.
