Tried installing XP but it made no difference, still had to restart the PC & boot from the DVD to install vista so im back to square 1.

So disappointed by this, will wait for the drivers request to pop up & try it clunk, but even then i dont know what drivers it wants. It seems to asks for the drivers for the CD/DVD tray, but if iv just been installing vista off of it, surely it doesnt need them? And even if it does, they didnt come with drivers, afaik its all plug & play.

When it asks you for any drivers, you can choose the usb stick, or a place on a hard drive etc.

So, just download the drivers, and then make sure you extract them to a folder on the usb stick, and when it asks, point vista at the folder on the usb stick. If I remember right, it took a few attempts for it to see my RAID drivers, so you might have to try it a few times.

    Yeh, exactly!

Looks like im gunna have to go through it all again though, belkin wireless drivers refuse to play nice with 64bit, might have0to try and re-install vista but go with 32bit.

    grrr

Any ideas on how easy it is to do? or where about i select the 64bit or 32bit vista? certainly didnt see a mention of it when i was installing it all the 1st(aka 4th time) around.

Bugger. is it new?, can it be returned?

If not, the 32bit installation is the same as the 64 bit one, but I'm not sure if your license key will let you nip back to 64 bit after reverting to 32.

There are no 64 bit drivers atm only 32 bit beta.
I have the mimo version of your product and it was the one thing that stopped me installing the 64 bit version.

I can tell you the 32 bit is relatively stable, I say relative as we still occasionally get a disconnect, but so far it is only happening once a day.

Does vista usually take this long? Only running on 1gb of RAM atm.
Surely microsfot would add in something to show you it hadnt frozen or a rough timer to tell you how long its gunna take?

    thanks again
If you can still move the mouse around just let it do its thing.

You can always hit the eject button on the DVD drive, wait a second and pop it back in to give it a kick in the ass

    Re: Problems installing vista

yeh, in the end i just put the TV on and tried not too look at it, was taking a good 30mins per screen to change, so it was really gutting when you had to restart it.

For future reference changing CD/DVD drives, taking out a stick of RAM & changing the slot it was in seemed to do the trick.

As for the belkin prolem, im only at my grandparents for another month before i go to uni, so im just gunna try & do without internet on that machine for now(still can use their old PC for internet). That or move their wireless router & connect my PC up to it with an ethernet cable.

thanks again for all the help guys!
