Thermaltake Big Typ 120 VX

Finished top of the Hexus pops when reviewed a while back, but I've not seen anyone admit to having one on these boards. Has anyone got one, and if so, what is it like?

(Need a slightly less tall HSF than the main tower coolers for an upgrade in a P160 case).

Well, I've never owned a ThermalTake product that wasn't deeply flawed in some way. I stopped buying anything made by them years ago.They may have changed their ways and improved their quality hugely - but I doubt it. Bear in mind that's only my personal opinion, and I am wrong about many other things so I could be about this too.

The Big Typ 120 seems to be good, however it also seems to be heavily case airflow dependant, as other reviews put it at the lower end of cooler performance when placed in a more standard case than the Antec 900 used in the Hexus cooler review. Due to the fan pointing at the motherboard, I would recommend against using it where height is an issue, as this would probably mean that the airflow would be too restricted.

I had similar thoughts about the Big Typ being case dependant. Good point about the height restricting airflow.

Gonna have to do some careful measuring methinks.

The big Typhoon doesn't fit in the P190 due to the case fan, but still should in the P160.

Oh yes, it will fit. The problem we suspect is that it will interfere with the case airflow. A fan that blows front to back should do the job better.

The measuring was too see if any of the tower coolers will fit. Thermalright say the Ultra-120 is too tall, which probably means most of the others are too.
