Which PC2-6400 Memory, does it matter?

    Hey,

I'm looking to buy 4GB memory for a new PC (from Scan, so I was hoping to get the memory from them too) 2x either:

    2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-12 (£58 x 2)

    or..

    2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, EPP (£68 x 2)

Is there much difference? It's going to be used in a Asus P5K-E motherboard and a Q6600 processor which a few months down the line I hope to overclock to around 3GHz (probably no higher) if that matters?

    I'd appreciate any opinions,

    Thanks.

I doubt you would ever notice the difference.

    No. Its splitting hairs.
There is a good chance they are the same anyway, just with a different SPD table. The "cheaper" stuff will probably do the same as the other, even if it needs a tad bit more voltage.

    Great, Thanks.

Will use the £20 saved to upgrade something worthwhile.

I have the £58 stuff, runs fine at 4-4-4-12 / 800 on my HTPC setup. And it didnt even need any extra juice

Re: Which PC2-6400 Memory, does it matter?

If you are only going to 3GHz I would of thought you would have been plenty comfortable with PC2-5400 which Corsair do in XMS2 4-4-4-12 flavour for about £50 a matched 1GiB pair. Of course if you are getting into watersports later the faster RAM may give you more headroom.
Apparently, "Do whatever you like" should NOT be considered authorisation to build my uber rig!

That £58 RAM looks like a bargain, I was going to get http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(16746)...R2-PC6400.aspx but I'm trying to save as much as possible so that I'll pick that at £7 cheaper.

Just browse through reviews from here and see that there's no noticable difference between CAS4 and CAS5 on C2D platform
