Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
Hi all. board is as above, built system today plugged it in switched it on booted first time. went in to the bios and as there is a 4300 in it (which i have had upto 3.1ghz stable) i thought i will pump the juice up a little to install OS quicker.
thought to myself.... 300 FSB should do it (300*9= 2700) Ram is corsair cant remember which but rated at 675. didnt touch any other settings and hit save and exit.
screen went blank. machine has power but blank screen.
Thought odd.
CLR RTC (cmos) did it proper way power out battery out jumper over left it. went to bog to do a number 2 came back switched it all back but still nothing!!!
whats going on?? i am lost
Re: Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
It gets stranger. i went down this morning wondering what would happen so i turned it on and it fired up no problems. (no os on it but got invalid boot etc)
Great i thought it has rest. I popped the OS disk in rebooted and then there was a blank screen again!
Faulty motherboard?
Re: Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
The TT PSU you have isn't great. The OC may have sent it over the edge.
Try a different PSU.
Re: Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
Sorry that isnt the PSU i am using for that system i am using a HYPER. I have a PSU tester All lights are green. but i did think it may be the PSU..
Anyway i thought these PSU's were the nuts!
Re: Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
Hyper? Oh dear. Put your head close to it and see if you can smell burning.
Re: Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
Hiper are VERY marginally better than TT's but there isnt alot in it really.
I would be willing to bet this is a PSU fault.
You can get very good bargains on PSUs at the moment so if you decide to go this route then £50 will get you a very good unit.
The 500W Fortron Bluestorms for around £45 are FANTASTIC for any none SLi/non Quad Core machines. For the same price, the 400W Libertys are good value aswell.
Re: Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
I thought the TT is a good unit. i have a quad core and a 8800 GTs i am running 3 HDDs and on tuesday i will have a Vapochill also. Maybe i should upgrade? I am not interested in SLI setup but i am interested in OC'ing. Any thoughts on a new one? dont wanna spend to much though.
Re: Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
Before getting a new PSU it would be best to confirm that it is the problem by trying the TT if you still have it, or borrowing one.
Re: Asus P5L-VM overclocked a little now wont boot
I bought a little 500w unit from ebuyer it was 40 qui. modular think it was antec. this machine is for a friend so not overly bothered wanna stick a little kick in the 4300 maybe 2.7 gig.
The TT is mine and runs my main machine that i am considering with the arrival of my Vapochill i may need a new PSU something with a little more than the current 680w i have. thoughts?
