    Unhappy Dual Channel 2x 512MB PC2700 with 2x 512MB PC3200

    Hello,

Before hand I would like to thank anyone who will help me with this as this has been a hard question to find.

My friend has a skt 939 Foxconn Motherboard with now 2x 512MB PC3200's in his system on Dual Channel on Slots 1 and 3.

Could he buy 2x 512MB PC2700's and Dual Channel them on Slot's 2 and 4 without any problems?

    Thanks,

    Koravin

Yes, but the pair of PC3200 will run at the lower speed of PC2700, in addition to running in 2T.

Dual Channel hardly makes any difference what-so-ever.

More RAM is better than having "Dual DDR" Marketing any day of the week.
Google for benchmarks. The "increase" that it offers is almost always in single figures.

    More RAM > Dual DDR

    Re: Dual Channel 2x 512MB PC2700 with 2x 512MB PC3200

Problem with Athlon 64 memory controller is they don't really like running 4 sticks and can be extremely fussy about running memory that is not matched, even in seperate channels (many earlier revision cores will only support 4 sticks at 333 Mhz).

If you put those in all his memory will drop to 333 Mhz anyway and some performance will be lost from this (A64s are optimum at PC3200/400 Mhz or greater). If we are talking games that use 2GB of memory (quite a lot do now, BF2 is a notable example) then that loss of speed should be countered by a smoother gaming experience.

The absolute safest option from compatibility and performance point of view is to buy a matched 2x1GB PC3200 kit and sell the rest.
