No difference that I am aware of. I've found the ones in my system specs (Samsung) to be really good, but I was looking for a drive that would read damaged discs well.

    Cheers,

I have an optiarc drive, it's solid and i would say quicker than my IDE version, but it's a &^*(&$^ load louder!

Sounds like its taking off at times :s

I have a SATA by Samsung the only real difference appears to be the lower cpu usage and that the cables are tidier in the case. Burn speeds show no real improvement as I believe that the bottle neck is always the speed of the DVD head and not the amount of speed that the data can be pushed to the unit! They are very cheap so why not get one?

Samsung SATA drives are very nice.. very quiet too.

If all your drives are sata (hard drive and optical) the pc boots quicker..or at least seems to.

I have an optiarc and a samsung. I don't notice any differnce in writing speed or quality of burns..the samsung is just less noisey.

No difference in speed with sata vs ide. But sata are more likely to be newer models so may be a bit better. But the technology is mature so there isn't much difference anymore.

    Sata means easier cabling.

optiarc I think is the merged sony/nec. nec used to be great for burners, so optiarc should be ok.

Ive got what was sold as a NEC 7170S but shows up in windows as the optiarc and its a good little drive...its not the quietest in the world but yet to have an incorrectly burnt disc.

id never thought about it but your right!
i use lite-on btw as it was on a today only a while ago and its served me well so far, never had a burning error.

Sata all the way, even the power cables (that come with modern psus) are tidier. Molex cables can get quite stiff sometimes and a rite b17ch to get out, especially in tight workspaces.
