    Startup help on XP

When my mate starts his PC he has to hit any key on the keyboard for windows to carry on loading. It doesn't say to do that but when he does the PC loads fully!! Why is this happening? Is it the keyboard? Everything looks ok in the bios!! Ta

This my be a silly question but are you sure there is not a message indicating why this is so?

Also is this after POST before Windows or he has to do it just to POST?

    What are specs?

Sounds like the BIOS is set to halt on an error, which requires a kb press to continue with loading.

The message should say why its halted. There should also be an option in the BIOS to change which errors it halts boot for.

Could be that a disk check has been scheduled, and he's pressing a key to skip the disk check and boot into Windows? If this section isn't visible during the boot process, I'd check that the graphics drivers are up to date too.

I cant imagine that graphics drivers are at fault here.

koolpc - Have you tried a different kb? Does the PC run fine once in windows?
