Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
Anybody who feels owning a Q6600 G0 is not fundemental to their very existence and can show a little self-restraint may want to hold out for one of these Harpertown server bad boys. The desktop variants will be along in Q1 2008 and I guess would go very nicely with the Eaglelake mobo which comes out in the same time frame. I've run out of delay cream so I'm just going to have to pull the trigger on a G0.
Killer pricing from Intel. Wonder how AMD will respond with their Barcelonas.
Can open, worms everywhere!
Model Freq TDP Cache Price
X5460 3.16 GHz 120W 12MB $1,172
E5450 3.00 GHz 80W 12MB $851
E5440 2.83 GHz 80W 12MB $690
E5430 2.66 GHz 80W 12MB $455
E5420 2.50 GHz 80W 12MB $316
E5410 2.33 GHz 80W 12MB $256
E5405 2.00 GHz 80W 12MB $209

Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
Nice, gives me some time to enjoy the quad core xeon that landed on my desk this morning :rockon2:
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
they should have announced 2 weeks ago, I just build Quad core last week. :(
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
You will still have at least half a year to use them :D
And new 45nm quads will come on 1333FSB bus which would make it harder to OC.

With a decent board, it shouldnt be too difficult, but we will see.
I wonder if we will see any of them before xmas?
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
Only Extreme version will be available this year for desktops. Later in Q1 we will see dual-cores and cheaper quads :)
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
Just to clarify this (as Im a numpty)
These are native quad cores? as opposed to 2 dual core dies?
and oooooooo this could be tasty.. but 4+ months to wait for them... hmmmmm

Aye, aye. Will be good to see the X38 boards as well, as they should be out by then hopefully....
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
Isn't it a little unusual to have the prices this far away from launch?
I haven't followed these things that closely in the past few years, but you never used to know exact costs to the channel until they were actually released.
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
These still will be two cores on single package. First native quad from Intel will be Nehalem
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
Oh basts. Why did I buy 4Gb of DDR2 and then find out I'll be stuck in the US for most of the rest of the year? All this new stuffs going to be using DD3 innit?

:confused:Oops, so they will, assumed they would be native, but just a die shrink eh..... will be using the high-K gates as well they've been harping on about for a while, should have quite an effect if the Intel boys are right, and they generally are:)
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!

C2D architecture ain't memory bandwidth hungry like Netburst is. And DDR3 memory will be expensive for at least another year when manufacturers will start producing DDR3 massively using 65nm-55nm tech. So you are really well geared for quite a long time :)
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
what are the fsb on these new baby's? if ist more than 1333mhz than surely thats higher than a ddr2 memory?
Re: Intel release Penryns on 11th November!
And also do you think the top end mobos for these will be using DDR2?

Nah, 1333 rated FSBs actually run at 333MHz which is equal to DDR667, or PC5300, ram.
