Verbatim on Samsung SH-S203 BEBN
Not sure if this is the right category, sorry if it isn't.
I'm about to make an order of a Corsair GT 2GB pen drive and a cakebox of 100 4.7GB DVD-Rs.
I just wondered if the Verbatim DVD-Rs (100pcs Cakebox Verbatim 43549 DVD-R 16x 4.7GB) work alright on the DVD drive in the title please?
I don't want to go spending £18 on 100 blank DVDs that don't work properly!
Thanks,
Craig.
Re: Verbatim on Samsung SH-S203 BEBN
Checking the scan specification listing for the drive, I see no reason why there would be any issue.
In my experience, unless you are getting through dozens of DVDs a day, you are unlikely to significantly notice much of a difference between most makes of media other than the price.
Re: Verbatim on Samsung SH-S203 BEBN
From what I've read I wouldn't try doing any writes at 20x regardless of the media as you get lots of errors. However, Verbatim x16 media burns OK at x18, so that seems a good buy.
Re: Verbatim on Samsung SH-S203 BEBN
I usually burn at lowest speeds for maximum quality, so that shouldn't be an issue :)

Thank you :)

AIUI The drives have different strategies for different speeds & media. Most aren't optimised for writing at slow speed, so while trying the max might give you problems, it's quite possible so will writing at slow speeds. Suck it & see.
Re: Verbatim on Samsung SH-S203 BEBN
The days of media + drive incompatibility's have largely gone now, thankfully (when sticking to branded stuff anyway).
Mroz is spot on about the strategies, slower is not always better, strangely enough! :)
Re: Verbatim on Samsung SH-S203 BEBN
IIRC lower was always better when writing CDs/DVDs?
I'll stick with 12x/16x then if lower isn't better anymore :)
Thanks,
Craig.

That was back in the olden days sonny. Why I've still got my first Yamaha 4x external cd writer which cost me best part of $400. You wanted to be sure of no errors with that little lady, you took it slow with her, yes sir.
Re: Verbatim on Samsung SH-S203 BEBN
Ahhh, I've always been told (on other forums as well by many people) that burning at lower speeds is much much better.
Thanks, now my CDs won't take years and years to burn :p
Craig.
