HP Mono Laser Advice - Any experts around?

    Hi Guys,

Looking for someone who knows their HP Laser Printers to help me out here, from what I've read HP seem to be the way to go for Mono Laser, so I'm looking to purchase one business use as the inkjet I currently use is extremely fuss and I spend half my time getting to print.

So basically I'm looking for something that's fast, extremely reliable and very cheap to run.

I had for a while considered the HP LaserJet P2015 series and the cheapest I found was a P2015D for £177.74 at eBuyer, strangely cheaper than the base model. HP LaserJet P2015d Printer 26ppm 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi 32mb USB.

To be honest however it's a little more than I want to pay and I've seen some pretty high end discontinued models on eBay, refurbished for less money. Are they worth looking at?

For example a HP LaserJet 4200TN for £119.00 + £35 carriage with a 30 day warranty. Might be a little bit over kill but there are lower end models.

Any suggestions or advice very welcome!

    Thanks,

    Mark

I've had a mono HP and a mono Samsung to set up recently.

The samsung was very quick and produces a nice quality finish. Its very good value and as far as i'm aware is fairly cheap to run.

The HP was good too.. a little slower perhaps but i can't remember the model it was. Very similar to the samsung in size though.

I use a 4200 at work, and it's solid as a rock. Not sure how expensive it is for toners, etc.

Samsung cheap to run and tend to have faster print speeds

Thanks, I have considered Samsung, but I've not heard that many good things about them. I'll look into it though.

Yes, I've heard they are very good. Without much searching I found a orignal HP Toner that does 12000 pages (at the standard 5% coverage) for £85. Much cheaper than many of the home office type models.

Thanks, as above, I'll consider Samsung but from what I've read and been told HP is the way to go.

Re: HP Mono Laser Advice - Any experts around?

Generally (and it is a sweeping generalisation!) the cheaper the capital cost of the printer, the more expensive are the running costs - particularly consumables. Remember we think of printers as devices to put images on paper - printer manufacturers see them as devices for useing (expensive)consumables! (Particularly cheaper inkjet printers!)

Things to consider are your monthly print useage, the cost of toner, the pages that a toner cartridge will provide (but beware that not all companies use the same coverage figures), the life of the drum, the replacement cost of the drum, and finally you might want to consider power consumption, print speed and time to first page. (If your documents are mainly single pages, time to first page is more important that print speed - however if you are printing many page diocuments, print speed is more important. Do you want network capability? Some printers have that built in, others you have to buy an interface card. Cheaper printers will only work well with Windows, (Win printers) which may or may not be a problem for you.

HP have a good reputation, Samsung has been mentioned here (no experience). Kyocera have a reputation for low running costs (burt a bit more expensive to buy) and Lexmark arte used extensively in business.

You really need to sit down and consider what your requierment is, visit a few mfr's websites for specs, then do Google search on the short list of printers for reviews, prices and consumabel prices.
