Added more ram, now computer doesn't boot :(
Hey people, just bought some ram from another Hexus member (super talent pc3200 1gb ddr400) I have 2 x 512 sticks already in there (dfi lanforce mobo) and I stuck the super talent in slot one, when I turned my computer on, there was no display and I heard a long beep from the bios, then pause, then another beep etc. Is there anything I am doing wrong? Any help would be much appreciated :) 1gb just doesn't cut it with Vista

Hi,
Could you try the 1GB on it's own?
It could have the weird 'problem' that my old 1.5GHZ has where it just doesn't accept certain RAM setups (e.g. stick in slots 1,2,4 or 2,3,4. It'll only accept 1,3 or 2,4 or 1,2,3,4).
Craig.

Dfi lan party nf4. :) just tried what you suggested craig, it works with the 1gb stick in fine, now I've got the 1gb stick in slot 1, put one 512 in slot 2 - same problem. Put the other 512 in slot three and it works :) so i have 1.5gb now. Thing is, I can't get to the 4th slot as my huggeee HSF is in the way :(
Re: Added more ram, now computer doesn't boot :(
Chances are it was trying to boot into Dual channel mode with mis-matched memory sticks, hence the error.
Re: Added more ram, now computer doesn't boot :(
DFI are notoriously picky with regard to ram. Some they like some they don't and some you just have to fiddle with until they work just like you have done.
Re: Added more ram, now computer doesn't boot :(
Don't think I ever got a matched pair + 1 random stick to work on any NF4 board tbh. I think the chipset only supports 1, 2 or 2x2 sticks.

:( Ahh thanks for the help people, looks like I'll be sticking with the 1.5gb then... meh!
Re: Added more ram, now computer doesn't boot :(
My Asus A8N SLi Premium didn't want 2 x 512MB TwinMoss PC3200 and 2 x 512MB G-Skill PC3200 in the motherboard at the same time :( - I was having the same problem as you.
It does however allow the G-Skill and 2 x 512MB Crucial PC2700 to work in Dual Channel
Re: Added more ram, now computer doesn't boot :(
Similar problem adding unmatched memory - it showed up when I ran memtest (thanks to advice received here!!) I RMA'd the RAM stick and received a refund (althoughg the RAM itself wasn't faulty - just incompatable with the already installed stick)
