so my p.c refused to boot into windows this morning and once again it was doing the 0% thing on the install.

i was pissed so i gave it to yoyo tech to see if they could discover the problem since i bought 80% of the components from them!.

well they discovered that the hard drive was fine, the dvd drive was fine. so they werent causing the problem.
they started memtest and it got to 66% before i had to leave as they were closing, its not looking like the memory is the problem.

please god dont be the motherboard as i have already taken 3 motherboards in to exchange and also thats the only component i didnt buy from them, thats because they didnt have it in stock at the time!.

Could be the issue right there

Always amuses me when people who overclock sit there and wonder why their shiny new computer has fallen over!

Remember, overclocking is literally running things above the specification the components were designed and tested at and deemed to be safe!

Your current PSU at 370 w may not be enough for your system on oc. i.e. maybe getting overloaded. If you manage to boot again try running at 'stock' for a couple of weeks.

PSU is pretty good 2 12 volt rails 14 off 12v +1 13 off 12v +2 so should take that OC.

I think that the CPU doen't run off the 12v but the 3.3volt if I remember correctly.
While the enermax noisetaker 370w should be enough to run that pc,esp with an rx1550, I wouldn't overclock on it.

It's your quad core CPU refusing to be seen with an rx1550 when all it wanted was an 8800 ultra to hang with

well i aint to pleased so far with whats happening.

i went to yoyotech and they tested all the componants i bought from them (which is all but motherboard) and they all tunred out fine, i asked them if they can confirm its the motherboard and they refused to and charged me 45 for NOT finding out what the problem is.
not to happy about that to be honest.

so i took the computer to where i got the motherboard from and they are going to test it........

im worried they are gonna say its not the motherboard!.

fixed now.

it turns out the p5k premium doesnt like vista 32-bit.
i am now using deluxe and all is well now!.

no one knows, but with this motherboard no matter what component you change it will just freeze on the install and if it installs it will eventually just not boot in!.
they tried 2 other p5k premiums and it was the same thing.

strange thing is the deluxe is identical in almost every way and this seems to work fine!.

and before you ask, yes it was with the new bios and old ones.

i havent updated to the latest beta bios with my new board, is it worth doing?.

oh i also bought a 2nd power supply for the 8800, it is a drive sized 300 watt thing and is designed to be used with graphics cards only, so that leaves the 370w for the quad, ram and hard drive.

I'm also getting the Vista 0&#37; install issue with the P5K Premium.
I believe that it must be some SATA compatibility issue with SAMSUNG HDs.

My Seagate SATA system HD with Win XP on it works absolutely fine (!) (Barracuda 7800.9 250GB)
When copying data to the Samsung (Spinpoint P120 250 GB), my second "data" HD, I get temporary
freezes and plenty of errors in the Windows eventlog (timeouts, controller errors, parity errors).
This also happens when copying data "within" the disk ( e.g. from D: to D: )

I tried a second, new, Samsung (Spinpoint T166 500 GB), ... same issue ...
Tried the new Samsung on a friend's P5K Premium rig --> same copy errors issue

Vista won't install on neither of the two HDs. It freezes at 0%

As mentioned, my Seagate disk seems to work fine with XP on it (no copying errors, just flawless),
but I can't touch it and try to install Vista on it because I need my XP installation.

@smellybumlove: did you try another HD brand besides your Samsung ?

I will get another HD for testing (WD or Hitachi) and will report back.
