P5k Deluex Question and "human" explinations
I've just updated to a P5k Deluxe board.
Reading through the manual there is some utter jibberish talked.
There are some features on this board that I'd like a breif human explination on.
1.) the Disk controller can be put in 3 modes, raid (obvious), ide (obvious) and ich8 ? I though that was the controller name, not a disk "mode" What is this mode.
2.) jrobinsion technology ? I can enable or disable this, what is it ?
Why does this board not have a PS2 mouse connector ? most boards don't seem to have them any more, why is it acceptable to have a ps2 keyboard, but not mouse any more ?
Re: P5k Deluex Question and "human" explinations
Its well documented that the manual is pants.
I think what the manual should say is that the 3 modes are RAID, IDE and AHCI.
Never heard of jrobinson technology, where is that in the BIOS?
No idea why they didnt put a PS2 mouse connector on there, but the good news is that a USB one works fine :D
Re: P5k Deluex Question and "human" explinations
Im guessing that Jrobinson is a crappy translation of JMicron? (which is the controller used for the additional ports)
Re: P5k Deluex Question and "human" explinations
If it was SJRobinson then that'be my old mans initials..
I've just ordered a p5k-e wifi-ap, is this the same thing?
Re: P5k Deluex Question and "human" explinations
1) AHCI is 3rd mode ich8 was used on 965 chipset p35 has ich9 controller.
2) It's actually Intel Robson Technology
Overcoming Disk Drive Access Bottlenecks with IntelĀ® Robson Technology
3) Intel is after phasing out PS2 mouse connector s as they reckon it's a legacy device, much like they decided to ditch the IDE connection:lol:
Re: P5k Deluex Question and "human" explinations
ok - so what is ahci mode ?
Intel Robson, yes, thats the beast. Thank you for the link.
If a PS2 mouse is a legacy device, is a PS2 keyboard not also a legacy device.

Intel AHCI

Re: P5k Deluex Question and "human" explinations
Robson is not JMicron
Robson is to avoid loss of time of your hd. The hd is slower then your cpu because the mechanical parts of the hd take over 75% of the time [+5ms] that the hd needs to read the data. With the Robson technology intel intents to reduce the search time of the hd by using flash memory of items you use frequent during your windows session.
And besides that, JMicron is only to place one external and one internal HD in Raid.
It has raid 0 and 1 [sometimes 5].. but I think it is made for raid 1 to have an external backup disk.
But what I don't understand that one can only choose using this robson technology when one choose to use raid. Anybody an idea about that?
Re: P5k Deluex Question and "human" explinations
BTW... lol .. you can enable the robson stuff.
It isn't installed on your mobo.. there is no flash.
Or they have adapted the technology.. or they simply gave us a ghost feature ;)
