New hard drive?
Sooo..... i'm after a new hard-drive! 80gig+ its gotta be quite and fast! Not sure whether to go sata or not yet. Any suggestions? Also I don't want one that'll die fairly quickly (seems to be alot of hdd rmas atm) so its gotta be reliable!
Prices + store please! :)

You've got so much choice at the moment then Ethos, You seem to want everything tho, fast, quiet and reliable, not asking for much really are you.
I'm a maxtor person for reliability i've had the last 4 hd's from them and they are all working still without issue, I've just got 6 * 120gb quantum 8mb sata disks at work, but in the 2 months i've had them i've had 1 fail already. (lucky it was in a 4 disk raid 5 array)
Can't really comment myself on noise as it doesn't bother me in the slightest like it does some people. But I definitely love Sata, so much easier to install, small increase in performance, but the case is so much tidier with Sata in.
Hope that helps

I'd agree with TiG on both counts, Maxtor drives are fantastic, and SATA does keep your case tidier, even if there's no performance increase. Take a look at the 120Gb DiamondMax Plus9 model.

Samsung are very quiet, but having said that my samsung did fail on me was rma'd no problem and i think it's fairly rare as samsungs are supposed to be very reliable, but it is silent, i can't hear it in my sonata case, which itself is very quiet.
EDIT:Should have told you what drive i have:) Spinpoint 160gb 8mb cache 7200 incase you have signature turned of.

go for a maxtor sata drive.. i have a 120gb one in one machine, and a 80gb in this one (but i havent fdisk/formatted it yet cos i'm lazy heh, still using a 60gb ata133 maxtor which is cool).. the good thing about maxtors is that they use the liquid bearings which means they are nice and quiet when idling :)

I would agree with Maxtor being the hdd of choice. don't forget their great RMA service too

well me and blockers will see how much it is to ship them all the way to Ireland.. why cant they be based in the UK and mean i get some change from a ten pound note :(
-
yeah, but chances are you will get a better drive in return, iirc it cost me £6 something to post it off to ireland

2x160 Sata Maxtor's here, better than my old 30.7gig IDE Maxtor anyways!
Fairly quiet as well as a speed improvement.
Just to note, I was going for 120's but for £10 more on each drive I got 160's!
£10 for 40gig? bargain tbh :D
