    2x1gb (1t) VS 2x1gb + 2x512mb (2t)

    Hi all,

I'm in the process of upgrading my pc which currently has the following base specs:

    socket 939 a64 venice 3500 (@stock)
    epox nforce 4 ultra motherboard
corsair 1gb DDR 400 (2x512 dual channel kit)
    msi 7800gt (@ stock)
    (running xp professional)

I was originally just going to buy a completely new c2d system, but I've managed to pickup a cheap 939 4800 x2, so to keep this pc ticking over for a little while I've bought a 2x1gb corsair value select dual channel kit.

My question is - would I get better performance running the 2x1gb alongside the 2x512 kit or would it be quicker running the the 2xgb kit on its own?

Both options would run in dual channel mode - but from what I can gather the nforce 4/venice will only run 4 sticks at 2t, whereas a 2 stick setup would run at 1t. I use the PC mainly for games.

I think the general rule is that amount of RAM is more important than anything else.

'AdvWar' is correct, more RAM is always better regardless of timings etc.
