    X38 Chipset

    Hi there,
I've been looking at the blurb for the X38 chipset this morning, and I'm confused.
I'm hoping someone understands this stuff better than I do.

Other than having 2 PCIe*16 channels for sli/crossfire, what are the advantages over the P35?

What is the significance of PCIe 2.0? When will graphics cards begin to use it?
    "Overspeed protection removed" wtf??

    Thanks

Well it won't support SLi as far as i know...thats nvidia's technology and only goes on nvidia based boards..unless you get dodgy bios hacks etc..

    Re: X38 Chipset

SLI exclusivity is hidden in the drivers. Quadro cards work in SLI mode on Intel chipsets officialy.
    PCI-E 2.0 - 150W through the slot (75W for pci-e 1.1); 5GT/s bandwidth (2.5GT/s for pci-e 1.1)

Wrong, a motherboard maker has officially announced that they will support sli as nvidia is just working out the bugs at the moment and things look set for the release date.(forgot which manufacturer it is)

The X38 will support DDR3 ram and DDR2 ram but not on the same board.

And hopefully the X38 boards will be supperb overclockers, and they also have a IHS like the core2duos..

    Re: X38 Chipset

Is it not also possible that X38 will also support Crossfire, as most previous high end Intel chipsets have?

    Re: X38 Chipset

Yep, X38 looks like its supporting X-fire officially and might do SLI as theres sites saying it wont ala link, then theres numerous sites saying it will do SLI ala more links.

Its going to be a good motherboard no matter what but I'm a little concerned about the price tbh.

    Re: X38 Chipset

As far as I'm aware SLi for desktops is not official.

This has been confirmed by Kinc who has contacts with representatives. Will have to wait and see.

It's going to have it's own version of EPP which is pointless and software clockgen control which is nothing new but maybe it's more extensive than other clockgens being as it will be written by intel/third party with intels whitepapers and knowledge.

Has there been any indication as to an approx price?
I had been waiting for one as it will be the end of the month before a G0 quad will be available, as they are currently due in Sept. Or should I just get an Asus P5K Deluxe?
