First time building a gaming pc (help)
I am going to build my first pc and these are my specs so far,
Asus P5k-e wifi-ap
Antec neo he 430w
2gb OCZ special operations edition (4-4-4-12)
320Gb Hitachi deskstar
Antec nine hundred case
Microsoft Vista Home Premium OEM
Keyboard and Mouse (cheap)
Arctic Cooler Freezer 7
8800GTS 320mb £179.99
Scan 120mm air filter (x2)
DRW lightscribe dvd-rom burner
DVD-ROM
Intel E6550
Total £780 :ill:
i am a bit confused about the core 2 duo, as the E6550 is about £104 and the the E6420 is £116 so why is the e6550 £10 cheaper? Also if anyone has any ideas on how i could save money, improve my system or has spotted any problems i would be very grateful if you could tell me.
Re: First time building a gaming pc (help)
prob get this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=545088 purely because i prefer leadtek over evga. only 50p more. Tbh with you. Ive lost track on what cpu is better than what now on the intel side. Im sure someone can clear this up. Looks like youve done your homework though
Re: First time building a gaming pc (help)
Change the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 to either the Zalman Fatal1ty FS-C77 CPU or any of the Zalman Aero Flower range.
Re: First time building a gaming pc (help)
Thanks ill probably think about that Leadtek graphics card.:) still, can anyone answer my other questions
Re: First time building a gaming pc (help)
The Intel E6*50 CPUs are newer and the pricing from some of the older models hasnt dropped down yet. How about the E6750 - its not much more expensive.
EVGA do a 10 year warranty so long as you register your product online after purchase so you should consider that when comparing it with the Leadtek too.
Re: First time building a gaming pc (help)
A cheap keyboard will do (wired) but you will want a good gaming mouse otherwise gaiming will be a pain - something like a raptor mouse or G5
Re: First time building a gaming pc (help)
As said the reason for the cheaper cpu price is that they are encourgeing people to by the new cpu's
Not sure on your memory
2gb OCZ special operations edition (4-4-4-12)
depends on the speed and price, some of the OCZ "special" memory in the past has just had a differnt/fancy heat spreader and a chunk added to the price.

Don't do that. Anything with the name Fatal1ty in it is overpriced tut. The Aero is noisy if you want decent cooling. Thermalright make the best HS around, or you could get a Scythe. Couple one of those with a decent fan to taste - Scythe S-Flex are very good.
Re: First time building a gaming pc (help)
I'd stay with EVGA or go for the BFG simply because of the warranty 10 yrs:mrgreen:
Yep I know your unlikely to keep it for 10 years but past the normal 1 year and it goes wrong? Wotcha gonna do then?
Do you need the WiFi? If not coose a lower cost unit somewthing like this
Re: First time building a gaming pc (help)
I'll second the recommendation on the Thermalright Heatsinks!

Ditto. Ultra-120 is excellent. Scythe S-Flex fans are also very good.
