8Pin PCI-E, A Compilation

I was wondering, which PSUs these days come with the 8Pin PCI-E cable? I'm trying to get a list together of those with one, here is so far:

The Corsair HXs come with 2 6Pin adaptors that have another 2 pins attached in case you need them

I'm pretty sure the 420W Corsair PSU carries a differnt series name to that of the 620W.

Coolermaster Real Power Series have them, don't know if the PSU is any good though Stick with the Corsair!

Correct, their environmently friendly series is the VX series, not HX. It boasts 85% effency.

I wonder what's the point of putting TWO 8-pin pci-e connections on 420W if it hardly will be enough for even one 2900XT

Just checked - only VX 550W has one 8-pin pci-e

A 85% efficient PSU is able to pump more current across the rails despite it's lower wattage rating.

I know the 2900XT is a bit of a power hog, but it's not *that* bad.

I'm talking about modern PSU from tagan...and I don't remeber them being less than 80% efficient for many years. And yeah we built 10 systems on work with that setup and had to change the power supplies cos they just refused to start at all...lol

Ok, i think you've got one wrong.
I have a corsair HX520 and it comes with 2x6 pin connectors, no add on to make them 8 and no 8 pin connectors.
I've double cheacked the cables that came with it that i'm not using it and it's defenetly not got anything.
Looking at the info page on scan it doesn't mention any 8 pin connectors.

I haven't read the thread but if this is about getting a 2900XT then I don't think it really matters if it hasn't got one 8 pin+6 pin. All you need it two 6 pin pci-e leads(I have been told it dosent make a difference), as you can just overclock using something like river tuner, just make sure the power supply is enough for your needs.

With the Corsairs you will need to order the 8 pin adaptor if you have an early unit. New stock should have them.

Are you sure about that? I thought the efficiency rating was about how much power it draws from the socket in the wall? 85% means that only 15% of the power coming from the wall is converted to heat.

Yeah, right, why don't you get a nuclear reactor to power your 2900XT crossfire while you're at it. Manufacturers *ALWAYS* overestimate requirements, because there is a number of factors that they *will* miss by making a conservative guess.
