1st of all, will all of this be compatible with vista?

Secondly, i am planning on using it as a gaming PC, should everything there be ok for what i want it for. I know i could get a better CPU, but im on a budget.

- 8600GT isn't a gaming card really, try the 320mb 8800GTS or somthing like a 512mb x1950 if your budget is tight
- Buy a better brand of PSU i.e. Corsair 520w
- Ditch the 680i board for a P35 board. Alot cheaper and less issues
- The case you've listed comes with a 450w PSU...Don't use it!! It'll be cheap and nasty.
- Not sure where that Kingston ram is from, but it looks over priced to me for 2x 1gb sticks.

All will work fine with Vista.

Where are you shopping? Scan.co.uk prices are def cheaper than those you listed above.

What monitor are you using? Whats the native res?

The Asus P35 boards are pretty good from what Ive seen.

For £600 its a top PC for gaming.

IME, Asus wouldn't know how to write a BIOS if they were all force-fed ASL manuals until they died from internal hemorrhaging. whilst those problems manifest themselves on linux more than windows, it speaks to me of deep-rooted incompetence and misunderstanding of how computers work

Better graphics card with more rm so when you stick all the AA and AF on you wont suffer slow down because of such a small frame buffer on the card.

Couple of questions tho:

1. Why do you recommend a 320MB graphics card over a 512?

2. Do you think a 520W power supply will be able to cope ok with a PC of this spec. Would a 600W not be better?

Ram over 256MB is currently not all that important. Processing speed is.

8800GTS is over twice the performance of the 8600GT.

That is just the first benchmark I clicked on, but from memory it seems representative.

A good 520W will easily cope with that PC and more besides.

Swap the motherboard for an Abit, the Gigabyte BIOS leaves a lot to be desired:

And if you're not overclocking save a few quid and change the memory:

- 2GB Corsair TwinX PC5400 4-4-4-12 ~ £52.33
