    Intermitent Harddrive?

I'm away from my PC, so I can't check the cable connections, but one of my harddrives only appears every now and again (after boot up, it's either there or not). I thought it was happening when I'd plug something else in (external hard drive, flash card etc), so wondered if it could be a configuration issue, but I noticed this morning it was missing without anything else plugged in.

Is it more likely to be a cable connection issue? Thing is that I've transferred at least 40Gb across to the disk with no apparent issues, and wouldn't have that been affected?

I guess it could be a failing motor on the drive, so it's not spinning up as the machine turns on, that could cause it to not be recognized I guess

I experienced something like that with an oldish HDD when it's cold.

    Re: Intermitent Harddrive?

I noticed a similar issue after installing a new, more powerful, graphics card with my old storage hard drive. It was happier once I took measures to cool my system, but, no doubt thanks to it's age, it still wasn't too happy to work every time. I'm still hoping I can retrieve the files off it somehow :S
