    Threads All Duplicating Now!

I know its a forum but the threads nearly all seem to be going the same way just lately.

    Its either:
    1. Building a new rig....recommend me the parts.
    2. Which PSU should i buy?
    3. Why is Vista so bad?
    4. Which RAM is the best?

I know i am prolly wrong in saying this but can a sticky not be put up telling people to at least read previous thread first?
I have read so many threads today and each one has been answered at least 6 times in the past couple of weeks already.
Suppose i just need varied topics to read whilst at work

    Sorry

I just don't bother reading them

Also, if you want to hide something and stop people from reading it on a forum, turn it into a sticky

    Re: Threads All Duplicating Now!

I expect the first point could be aimed at me, but in my defence I have posted a spec on a couple of occasions and had my suggestions given a bit of a kicking, so am looking for a consensus of decent kit!!

Sorry, rather a long sentence with too many comma's there!!!

    Re: Threads All Duplicating Now!

It is difficult because some people really dont know where to start, so there is going to be multiple threads, especially when some of the prospective hardware is slightly different to the last person's.

Rather than let it irritate you, maybe you could just link the person to the previous thread, that way they get some kind of help, and you dont blow a gasket

    Re: Threads All Duplicating Now!

Well you're assuming that everyone has exactly the same requirements and budget.. which isn't usually the case.

The advantage of the interweb and forums like this is that you can attempt to get the right answer for your own situation, otherwise we'd just make do with one or two generic FAQs and have no need for a forum

    Re: Threads All Duplicating Now!

The hardware forum used to be my favourite as it has a lot of discussion about technical stuff.
That was before the forum got changed a couple of years ago, when it was moved from the head
forum down to just another forum. When that happened it became just a forum about what hardware
this and that rather than any discussion about stuff.

    Re: Threads All Duplicating Now!

I guess we need something like the PSU calculator, but for specifying systems. Can't be that hard a web app to write? Give it your budget, low budget=amd, high budget=Intel. Use Linux=Nvidia, etc...

There is a defence for those posts Every person building a system tends to have different budgets, and wants different results from their system. As such, one person's build is rarely ideal for everyone else's.

Of course, some of us were clever, and read up on the subject until all they had left to ask about were a few things that they couldn't quite figure out

It's also true to say that those "omg build a rig pls pls pls pls!!" threads get action simply because it's actually fun to try and build a system to meet someone's desires. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed in the level of responses to my own similar thread, which was no doubt resulted from the fact that I wasn't that fun! Fair enough

I'd be more than happy to see something more intellectual than "is it can be fix time?" or "build it plspls", I like meaty discussion threads - just make them, kk?

    Re: Threads All Duplicating Now!

Apologies... I just made a thread about buying a new pc

    To hell I go!

I think people like reassurance that what they have picked is right though, or they have doubts about certain parts of the kit they have picked and would like advice.

Should be a good thing, people trust strangers on Hexus more than they do them selves! : ) It's the same in the cars and bikes forums. Loads of threads about what car I should buy.

PCs are expensive... people have to budget if they want some of the latest kit... you don't want to buy a total dud so it's nice for people to check what they are buying is 100% right!

    EDIT:

PS: Since I have already apologised.... Help me in this thread pretty please! http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=116802

Thank you, honestly... I was only playing... please don't hurt me!

    *legs it*

PPS: 800 threads, w000t... now you have to help me! Only taken me ~4 years!

Same everywhere. Been a member of a million forums over the years and every one is exactly the same. This is better than most though.

p.s. I noticed that on some forums, some people get annoyed when somebody ressurects an old thread. So some people can find it impossible to win sometimes =)
