Quad Temps (B3)
Anyone else out there running a C2Q6600 B3...
Mine seems to idle at low to mid 40's and after hammering all 4 cores with orthos over night temps hit low to mid 70's...
Maybe its the P5K-E I have being set to silent.
Maybe its me needing to change which fans are on which headers.
Maybe the Freezer Pro isnt upto Quad cooling.
Did have a C2D 6420 that was sat under the same heatsink but with an AB9 Pro board and that never went about mid/high 40's.
So far missing my uGuru clock and the ability to change the speed on all fan headers, is there something which allows better fan control as anything more than silent makes it louder than my old setup..
I might lap the heatsink and cpu over the weekend and move the fans around and see what that gets me..
One other thing, the Quads are a touch thicker than the C2D's but I still notice my Freezer moves slightly on the top of the CPU where as the stock fan is really tight and doesnt move at all...

Re: Quad Temps (B3)
The one I had ran 33 - 36 degrees Idle and around 55 under load with the scythe ninja.
Not great but fine if you're not overclocking.

Re: Quad Temps (B3)
Those temps are a bit high for stock Trig, it is possible that the Arctic cooler thing that isnt quite on properly, or the thermal paste is too much/not right.
Also, on a lot of quads, if the IHS/heatsink arent quite flat, that can give odd temps, so I always recommend a bolt on heatsink and backplate. This stops the motherboard from bending so much and reduces the amount of contact that is lost when the heatsink is tightened up. See the quad core thread for details on that.

Re: Quad Temps (B3)
What are you using to monitor the temps?
Coretamp says my X3210 (2.13GHz Quad Xeon) goes to around 85c at ~3GHz 1.4v after full stressing with an SI-120 Extreme. I also noticed a fair amount of play between the heatsink and cpu and added some spacers to tighten the fit. The funny thing is, bumping it to 1.45v @ 3.4GHz only increases it by 5c....
Supposedly though if Coretemp reads a TJunction of 100, you need to take 15c off of the reported temperatures.....that puts mine around 70c.

Re: Quad Temps (B3)
readind temps with the new coretemp beta..
I'll take the heatsink off 2nite n clean it all up n stick it back on, it is possible that in my rush to injoi C2Q goodness its not quite on right lol...

Re: Quad Temps (B3)
Now hitting 65/66 on 1 pair and 61/62 on the other pair, guessing one side of the chip is getting better contact...
Whats the heatsink of choice for these things?

See the quad core thread mate :)

Re: Quad Temps (B3)
Yep thats the one.
Ninja, Tuniq, Thermalright Ultra and Infinity.
Run mine with the Tuniq, on minimum fan speed coretemp shows 36 ave on a warm day.

Re: Quad Temps (B3)
Idle, and all 4 cores are showing as 48-50c using the new CoreTemp Beta.
Using the Stock Cooler.

Re: Quad Temps (B3)
I've got 44/45/43/44 idle on mine
Hard burn with 3 copies of Orthos, 1 per core gives me
69/69/65/65 after 10 hours
