    Vista 64bit 4gb RAM Hotfix

Sorry for making a new thread but I couldnt find it anywhere. Can someone point me to the number of the hotfix to enable 64bit vista to use the full 4Gb RAM? I am running windows update now but not sure if it will download throught that or not.

    Cheers

I read about not being able to install vista with 4Gb of RAM, could have sworn I Saw a hotfix needed to install after though.

Re: Vista 64bit 4gb RAM Hotfix

considering one of the prime functions of a 64bit OS is 4GB and greater ram support I'm very surprised to hear that.

I've installed vista x86_64 on 2 machine both with 4GB of ram.

Are you sure you've not read about certain hardware solutions not liking 64GB of ram and panicing when windows does some probe or something ?

a hotfix effects an os when running the OS. I can't think any hotfix will help installation.

Re: Vista 64bit 4gb RAM Hotfix

Wasnt the hotfix to take out 2 of the sticks and install it, and then put them back in later?

It installed ok for me with 4x1GiB, however, I'm back on XP on both machines as it really is a steaming pile of festering dog kack.

Edit: The steam has now broken.

Almost(?) all (I cant think of one that can't infact) hotfixes can be slipstreamed into a install disk. They are certainly not just for a running OS

as far as i remember 2 gig problem was due to a bug in the installer rather than windows itself

Re: Vista 64bit 4gb RAM Hotfix

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
    • The computer uses more than 3 GB of RAM.
    • The computer uses a storage system that is running the Storport miniport driver.
    • The computer uses a controller that uses 32-bit direct memory access (DMA).
