OK thanks both for the confirmation. I didn't think (and couldn't see how) it could be done but some of the comments in the thread had prompted me to wonder. RAID0 and RAID1 it is then :)

My calculations were off slightly due to RAID 1 taking up twice the space. After formatting, a 500GB disk will become approx. 465GB. Therefore, after taking off 100GB (from each drive) for the 100GB RAID 1 volume, you are left with 365GB free on each disk, resulting in a 730GB RAID 0 volume.
