Crucial Ballistix and "normal" DDR2
Looking at the crucial website I see the Ballistix DDR2 memory is 2.2V and standard DDR2 is 1.8V. What are the implications of using Ballistix mixed with standard DDR2? Will it work? I've got the chance of a couple of cheap 512 sticks of Ballistix but my system currently has 2 standard DDR2 sticks and I'd like to have all 4 sticks to get 2Gb of memory. Will the Ballistix simply step back to the standard DDR2 timings and work at 1.8V?
Re: Crucial Ballistix and "normal" DDR2
Depends on the motherboard to some extent, but the Crucial may not even be stable at 1.8V. I wouldn't mix it.
Re: Crucial Ballistix and "normal" DDR2
Depends what the "standard" ddr2 is, also as Thorsson has said the motherboard and how fussy the Ballistix is over voltages.
If the timeings are set to the higher and the speed to the slower of the two sets of sticks, that should be ok most memory underclocks without problem.
It's the voltages that are the worrying bit.
PS try asking on the corsiar care section, I expect them to know ;)
Re: Crucial Ballistix and "normal" DDR2
Mixing Ballistix with value RAM is completely pointless. Either get two sets of value RAM, or two sets of Ballistix.
If your Ballistix are high binned ones, you might get away with running them at PC2-6400 @ 1.8v ish, but personally, I wouldnt go there.
Re: Crucial Ballistix and "normal" DDR2
I run my PC2-6400 Ballistix at 1.8v on my DS3P and they seem to run fine though if and when I overclock I may well ramp up the voltage.
