    A little help please

I am going to be building a new PC, to be used mainly for gaming. These are the parts which I am currently thinking of using:

    • Antec P182
    • Intel Q6600
    • Corsair 520W HX
    • GeForce 8800 GTX
    • Scythe Mine

I already have HDD, monitor, RAM, keyboard, mouse, etc. but what I need help is with choosing the motherboard.

Currently I am thinking of getting the Asus P5K-E, but any suggestions of motherboards of about the same price. Also, any comments on any other parts, thanks.

    Re: A little help please

All looks pretty much spot on.

I prefer abit for my motherboards at the moment. The IP-35 is very nice. It needs a bios update which abit are working on but only to work out some niggles that dont actually affect the boards performance in the slightest.
Abit care forum here on hexus too

The asus is a very good board though and I've never had one fail on me..god forbid if it did though due to the shocking support.

The scythe mine is supposed to be good but I prefer the ninja myself. It works so well in the P182 due to where it sits between the fans..but i supose the mine wouldnt be too much different.

    What RAM do you have?

I hope you have a large monitor. Otherwise it might be better to buy a GTS and save the money towards the next time you want to upgrade.

The Scythe Mine does OK too. I'd go for the Thermalright Ultima 90, because it does as good a job and is smaller.

    RAM: 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400

I was thinking of the Ultima 90, but I saw how well the Scythe Mine did in the Hexus CPU Cooler Mega Test (http://www.hexus.net/content/item.ph...=8757&page=116). I would also want to pick up a 120mm fan with the Ultima 90, like a Scythe S-Flex, wouldn't I?

Yeah they don't come with fans so you need to get one.

    Re: A little help please

Just been looking at the Ninja Plus. Is there any cause for concern in the way that it is mounted to the motherboard? (ie. will it stress the motherboard? not have full contact for cooling?)

    Re: A little help please

    I've used one on,

    Asus P5B
    Abit IB-35
    Evga 680i

    All worked perfectly.

It's a lot lighter than it looks, I would deffinatly fit it with the motherboard outside of the case as its very tricky in the p182..you would need hobbit fingers to do it. Also with it outside of the case you can make sure its properly seated.
