    Help me stabilize Q6600g0 on a p5kc @ 3.4/6ghz

Hey guys. Im no OC noob and i'm no expert either, but i was looking for some little help. Im running a p5kc, with a Q6600g0 (zalman 9700 cooler) and 2gb OCZ PC2 8500 (4-4-4-12).

I can reach 3.1ghz stable with the settings on this page, but when i try and hit 3.4 or 3.6 (ideally) i get errors in orthos and crashes in games such as lost planet on the benchmark. Was just wondering if anyone can help me out, is there a setting ive got wrong or im over looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

These are my current settings @ 3.1ghz - average idle temp is 40c - case is a antec 900 and a zalman 9700 on the cpu:

    Multi: 9
    FSB: 344
    Dram Frequency: 688
    Dram timings: 4-4-4-12
    Read control: disabled
    Transaction Booster: Auto
    Clock Over chargine mode: Auto
    CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    CPU Voltage: 1.4v
    CPU Voltage damper: Enabled
    CPU PPL Voltage: 1.5v
    DRAM Voltage: 2.2v
    FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3v
    Northbridge Voltage: 1.4v

So, as i say, im probably overlooking something obvious or ive completely got a setting wrong. But any help would be appreciated. Anyone with a similar setup, case and cooler hitting 3.6 stable?

    Cheers, Jack.

    hi

im 12 so i cant even think about overclocking my dads pc but he already dont it for me

but i been reading about how to OC and Q6600 @ 3.1 ghz very good most people cant get theres over 3.00 ghz on air 3.4/3.6 is a bit pushing it unless you have some really good case cooling

try and overclock your pc outside (if your in the UK its freezing ) LOL

    bye

Well, I've not tried playing with a Q6600 yet, but I've picked up a bit from reading this 'ere forum

Firstly your average idle temps seem a little high compared to what I'd be expecting. Make sure you are using the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool to get this figure, first of all. I suspect that your heatsink may well need reseating, it's a common enough problem.

Aiming for 3.6 on air is a little too ambitious, to be honest. Many people have managed 3.4GHz, but it is very much down to lucking out and getting a nice pair of dies.

Once you have attempted to get your heatsink remounted and the idle temperatures down, you might want to try increasing the CPU Voltage a little, step by step.
