I have the original Sonata and have been really pleased with it. The Sonata III is an improvement but design is fairly similar. I love the looks, particularly the piano black finish. The Sonata III is certainly a quiet case and the included power supply is not a bad choice for a quiet system. It is also good value for money for a case and PSU.
Would I recommend a Sonata III for a new build? Well that would largely depend on your specification. It's much smaller than some and this creates some problems with heat if you intend on high spec components. Modern graphics card, CPUs and chipsets exhaust a lot of heat and I would be concerned about this case for a high end gaming machine. Having said that you could do an awful lot worse! If you do intend to build a high end gaming PC I would recommend the excellent Antec P182 and a Corsair PSU. Otherwise the Sonata is an excellent choice.
Antec P182 is the quiestest case i've come across, corsair 520hx makes it as silent as they come.
The Sonata should be pretty decent but far more important for silence than the case is the fans. Even with the best sound proofing in the world if you have a hefty CPU cooler, a high end graphics card, Raptor hard drives and high performance fans your case *will* make noise (ok well maybe not best sound proofing in the world but you get my point :P).
Case fans are not too difficult to get quiet ones (at least when they are 120mm) but make sure you research the CPU cooler, hard drives and graphics card before you buy!
Some reviews recommend the 2 over the 3, have you considered the P150?
I recentley got an Antec P180 and its very quiet to be fair ! :)
ok so the case is smallish, will it hold a good aftermarket cooler, like a 9700 or tuniq 120? does it have that much space, and no i'm not a heavy gamer, prob max would be a reasonable mid-range card. but i definatle want it quiet...it's got 1 fan is that really enough?
I would have thought all cases to be quiet, just leave them unplugged ... mine's silent
I have bought the Antec 900 and its practically silent.
The 3 120mm fans and the 200mm fan, when on slow (which is enough to keep everything extremely cool), make it almost inaudible.
Hi i have sonata 3 can recommend it :rockon2:
i have the lexa nzxt case uber quiet noisiest thing is my hard drives
looks sweet too
was gonna buy an antec once but saved my money and painted a cardbox board black:)
Another vote of the P182 (tho its a big bugger)
