Computer Problems. Freezing.
Hi,
My computer is freezing up alot. This morning it crashed 5 times. I've tried to locate the cause of the problem but couldn't find one.
This morning when I went to turn it on after 9 hours or so of being turned off, it did the following:...
Turned On -> Crashed At Post
--Restarted--
'Cmos Checksum Error' Press f1 to continue -> Crashed at 'Windows is starting up screen'.
--Restarted--
Crashed at windows boot screen. 11 scattered blue pixels.
--Turned Off--
I think now that it could be the CMOS Battery which has and is causing the problems.
I would really like a second opinion though.
Thanks,
Luke
Re: Computer Problems. Freezing.
I don't think an old battery would cause video corruption. You could try clearing the CMOS if you have upgraded components recently.
Have you checked the temperatures (of everything)? I also made some suggestions in your other thread about the PCI-E 6 pin connector.
Re: Computer Problems. Freezing.
How would I go about clearing the CMOS ?

I changed the CMOS Battery with another I had. Turned it on, and got a black screen [after post] with the following writing on it.
'Windows couldn't start ect..
Load needed dll's for kernels
"

Re: Computer Problems. Freezing.
It was,
Windows couldn't start [something] <- Wasnt important
Load needed dlls for kernels <- Important bit
Contact your support for help <- Something like that.
The only important bit was the middle line.

Microsoft suggest a re-installation of windows, as some of the windows files are either damaged or corrupted. I am trying this now.
Re: Computer Problems. Freezing.
It was going fine until it crashed during the windows install. Im going to try testing the memory individually now.
Any other suggestions ?
Re: Computer Problems. Freezing.
I moved the memory around, but it wouldnt post. I removed the Stick furthest from the CPU and it posted. Hoping thats the problem. Fingers crossed.
Re: Computer Problems. Freezing.
did you reset your bios after clearing the cmos?
Re: Computer Problems. Freezing.
No.
It seems to be working fine now, without that 4th stick in the last slot.
I have noticed, however, that all of the USB ports give power but do not read the devices attached to them...
I plug in my iPod. It starts to charge and recognises its been connected. The pc has a momentary freeze, 1-2 seconds but nothing happens after that. All drivers installed.
Im afraid its the board now... Suggestions ?

:surprised: Were the sticks all identical? Had a peek for any BIOS updates that resolve issues with 4th slot/multiple DIMMS?

Tried it with any other devices? Is that with the back I/O ports? What about ports on the next line down or the front ports if you have both and vice versa? Does an enhanced USB controller show up in device manager?
