What Do You Use To Measure Your Core2Duo Temps?

    Hi folks,

Just had the system running for a couple of days and decided to see what the Core2Duo (E6750) temps were in idle and under load (Prime95).
Off topic: What's the best way to load the CPU, to see what its load temps are, is it Prime or something else?

Anyhow, I just wanted to know what you folks use to monitor your Core2Duo temperatures and what you've obtained with them.

It's just that I'm using two programs, CoreTemp v0.95.4b and Intel TAT v2.04. I seem to get the following temps:

    CoreTemp, Idle: 26°C, Load: 45°C
    TAT, Idle: 13°C, Load: 26°C
    BIOS Reading, Idle: 20°C

I'm a bit confused to which one to take as correct, understandably taking the higher temps are safer, so which of these do you think to be much truer?

Finally, what are the Intel Core2Duo temp thresholds (i.e E6750)? and how are these to be measured, monitored?

    Thanks All.

Re: What Do You Use To Measure Your Core2Duo Temps?

Coretemp is generally the most reliable I've found, TAT is abismal on most of the newer Core 2's(if not all). Unless you have some monster cooling(PET, water etc, then TAT is completely wrong)

For a Core 2 you want it under 65c during load ideally, but you can go a little higher is you were so inclined, but I wouldn't recommend it myself.

Re: What Do You Use To Measure Your Core2Duo Temps?

i believe that with core temp (and maybe tat) you need to add 15°C as the t-junction only goes upto 85

ie. coretemp shows mine as idling at 13°C but is in fact nearer 28°C (albeit mine is oc'd), and tat shows as 3-4°C more.

as for the thresholds look at these Intel Datasheets

I was under the impression that CoreTemp is correct if your TJunction is 85..........If TJunction is 100 then you deduct 15c from the reported temperature.

Re: What Do You Use To Measure Your Core2Duo Temps?

My understanding was that CoreTemp is correct unlesss you have a G0 revision processor (that includes all E6x50 series), in which case you add 15c to the temperature.

The latest version of CoreTemp has this correctly for the G0 steppings now. Just look at the Tjunction in CoreTemp - it'll be 100 if you have an up-to-date version of CoreTemp and are using a G0 stepping, otherwise it'll read 85, which is erroneous.

Ultimately, just use your common sense. Clearly if you are getting readings below ambient then something is wrong (well, if you are using air/water cooling, anyway...).

After you wrote that CoreTemp didn't use Tjunction of 100, I checked the system, on CoreTemp v0.95.4 Beta it says stepping for E6750 to be G0 and Tjunction used is 100. I can't figure out why it says this and your version is saying otherwise, where did you download your version of CoreTemp and when?

    Thanks.

Re: What Do You Use To Measure Your Core2Duo Temps?

I have an E6850(GO). This afternoon I read this post and checked my version of Coretemp, I had version 0.95 and the Tjunction temp was 85c and Cpu was 51c load. So I dl the new Beta version(0.954 here) and now the Tjunction is showing 100c and cpu 61C load, which is the correct temps. the new Beta def does work, hope that helps

got it from Here, although have a fresh version of the beta and seems ok and temps seem to be what i would have thought they would be (even with a tj of 85).

maybe somebody accidently have the two links linking the same file...who knows

Re: What Do You Use To Measure Your Core2Duo Temps?

orthos (based on prime95) is better than prime95 for dual cores as it loads up both fully with feedback for each core:
    http://dl.techpowerup.com/Benchmarki...e_20060420.cab

I'll check out coretemp I was using PCW2007 to read temps
