SATA's 1 & 2 (2 reduns) are obscured by the EVGA 8800 gts big fat ass casing. My question is; do they by any chance do right-angled cables that "spoon" each other?
In other words; is there a right-angled connector that is slightly longer than the conventional right-angled one? So it spoons nicely over the top of the conventional one?

iirc its only the Gtx sized cards that cause this, I have a GTS and no probs
Cables which bend in the opposite direction would also help but I have bought a stupid amount of SATA cables in the last 6 months (trying to find some good ones for very particular runs) and none have bent the other way :(
I feel your pain though, until I went water-cooled I couldn't use 2 SATA ports.
Well that's the thing, it arrived earlier, first thing I did was insert the EVGA 8800 gts ACS into the P5K Deluxe and it most definitely over-hangs (obscures) SATA's 1 & 2. I can get a right angle cable in there no problem, but no chance with a straight SATA connector, hence the question (haven't seen any btw).
It's not really a problem, I don't think, I'm still in a "cooling off" period, so it can go back with an explanation.

Oh right it has the AC3 Cooling, yeah those bigger coolers do obscure em, no idea about the cables sorry, I just use the standard ones
Can we see a pic of how it is?...It is doable with a GTX, doing it as per the pic above.

Bloody camera's not here again, I was looking for it before I posted. Heads are gonna roll - mood is not good :lol: As soon as the camera is retrieved I'll take a pic.
Basically the top 2 red ports (above the black) labelled 1 & 2 are exactly covered - but - there is a clean 1cm height gap between ports and outer card casing. So basically the 2 black ports and 5 & 6 are free.
I knew the ACS casing was a porker of a box, but I still figured I'd have a tad more room to operate in. It appears not.
Akasa SATA cables are very flexible, you can bend the wiring at the point of the connector to 90 degrees.
Are you planning on using six hard drives?
In other words, what's wrong with the other sockets ;)
2 x sata HDD, 2 x sata DVD-RW + future expansion option in mind.
I might have found a suitable bendy connector as aidanjt suggested though.
The main problem with that is that if you use the bottom 4 sata sockets, you are forced to use the fugly jmicron controller, which, really, everyone should turn off :)Quote:

Thanks iranu, that's one I was eargerly eyeing, I'm on the phone to maplins first thing tomorrow morning, the staff at my local store are pretty knowledgeable and helpful. Hopefully that's the right cable/connector for the job. It sure does look like it to me. :woowoo:
I saw the opposite of your query here. with side by side pics. So it looks like that cable is tall enough to fit over your existing one

So I could use those 2 covered sata sockets, and those cables, for the 2 sata Samsung DVD-RW's I'm getting, they are sata 150. So I wouldn't lose out any (I think).
what you need is two different height 90degree sata cables and it works very well.
asus include low-profile 90degree cables, and you put that in the slot closest to the edge of the board, and the second (normal-height 90degree - i can only talk about akasa as those are the ones i have), over the top of them. it works a treat.
else use two of the low-profile 90degree cables and get the one furthest from the board to have the cable turn back onto itself, and towards the back of the case, and then route it around.

That sata cable at scan does look promising to me
i think that scan one looks too tall. it would be much better to get two low profile ones and have one wire running across your mobo - it all depends what is more important to you - a well seated graphics card with a little cable mess, or cable tidiness but with pressure on the end of the vga cooler.

Maplins had an attack of the saturday morning numpties, so I called a couple of other places and I'm assured that the high profile right-angled sata connectors spoon just dandy with the low profile connectors. Whether there is room in the 1cm gap is an unanswered/suck it and see job, it should work given the measurements I got over the phone.
However, studying the board closely this morning I've got a PCI slot problem on the P5K that can't be resolved. The fat ass ACS³ not only covers the first PCI slot down, but practically sits on the second, making it unusable a) because I couldn't get another card in comfortably and b) because it would interfere with fat asses cooling.
By the time I've shoved an Audiotrak soundcard in the bottom slot - I ain't got none left. I want two usable PCI slots.
Damn shame, I'm pissed, that board had all the right ingredients for what I wanted, just not the layout. The Gigabyte P35 DQ6 looks ideal in layout for this, but lacks WiFi. Looks like I'm forced to look toward X38 and a board that has all of the P5K attributes with layout to suit fat ass - long shot? Hope not.
