Heres a nice hard tech request for you all

    Hi

why does my spanking new machine i built, restart before it gets to post? All fans blow but the CPU fan tries to start, fails at that.. then a second later the CPU fan blows for a second then the system restarts itself. It was working for a week before this. Then vista failed to load properly and had to do a hard reset.

    q6600
    4 gb ram
    gigabyte DS3 p35
    2 hd
    1 dvd
    320MB 8800 GTS XFX
    520w corsair

I have tried it only with the cpu and 4gb ram of ram in, with 520w corsair and a 430w seasonic (i know this one works). I still get the same problem. Is it the MB or maybe the case connectors to the MB? Any more ideas?

do you mean you tried it with only 1gb of RAM or did you actually try it with 4GB?

My abit ip-35 wouldnt boot with 4gb of ram in until I adjusted the volts

Is your new build shorting to the case?
    Have you checked?

    ah p180 doesn't have a speaker I don't think.

Not had one fail to post after a hard reset though. Unless something broke which caused vistas failure to load.

Best thing to do is start from scratch with 1gb of RAM. Check if its shorting as blitzen said but if it worked before i doubt its a short (normally the i/o sheild if you're using one).

    You've changed the PSU,

If the RAM doesn't change anything then it's time to think about the motherboard.

Try clearing the CMOS.. and reseat everything you can think of.

What sort of temps did it run when it worked?

yer i tested with a dif psu. Didnt check the temps when i first installed but put it this way i had a 3 hour game of supreme commander, max everything on 20km*20km map and it didnt crash. That worked as a stress test and heat test in itself . I noticed one thing that vista sleep mode is rubbish.

edit: Wish i could get into BIOS. or even to the press f2 screen.....

Re: Heres a nice hard tech request for you all

I tested all the ram in another computer with a case speaker and got an 'alls ok' beep .

So, im going to do this:

swap out the gfx card and check with the comp in the akasa eclipse case

then the next step is to test the power supplies

then to swap out the MBs + CPU...

shame the eclipse is AMD based and the p180 is Intel based.

I was beginning to trust gigashyte again. I've never liked their boards simply because of all the issues I seen and subsequently had to deal with.

Have you checked the manufacturers website. They might have a support section that has the answer.

it's not just Gigabyte - e.g. Asus P5K will do it too.
In fact it's a 965/P35 trademark as the straps initialise but that normally gets disguised by some BIOS work - if something goes out of kilter it will reappear though.

    MSI P55-GD80, i5 750
    abit A-S78H, Phenom 9750,
