Why, my hearing is poor, you may need to repeat that several times!
(I take it double posting would be cheating...)

Ok then, serious question: still haven't heard on whether a fast harddrive (say 10000 RPM) would be particularly beneficial. I imagine it would improve loading times, but compared to getting a P5K motherboard/branded RAM/a safe PSU, would it likely be money well spent?

Considering HDDs are the primary bottleneck on any computer, I'd say yes.

Re: Checking on my possible future spec

10000rpm hard drive will of course prove better than 7200rpm one's.. noisier but faster.

But in terms of cost-benefit it will rarely make sense to buy one unless you are running it as a server or something thats very hard drive intensive.

The pc in question will blow your socks off with a 7200rpm drive..thats for sure.

Re: Checking on my possible future spec

Thanks for everyone's help - this is why hexus is so great really. Anyway, the spec I'll be getting:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2x3.33ghz (warranty not voided)
    2gb OCZ Special Ops DDR2 800mhz RAM
    Asus P5K 1066mhz FSB motherboard
    Nvidia 8800GTS 320mb
    OCZ 600W PSU
    250gb HD, 7200rpm
    18X DUAL DVD +/- RW

Obviously some suggestions I've received haven't made it into that final spec; that's due to financial restraints - but obviously everything that's been said has helped me make that choice, and provided a healthy dose of computing education. I'm sure the PC will keep me very happy for a good while, but no doubt I'll be back soon anyway

Btw, I actually ended up spending an extra £120 rather than £80 - but it'll be worth it. Total price minus P&P: £671
