Bent Graphics Card Capacitor - Concern?

    Hi All,

As the header states, I have a graphics card, ATI HD2600XT, which seems to have ONE bent capacitor, angling at about 5-10 degrees, should I be concerned as the rest of the capacitors on the card seem straight.

It's seems to be working as system loads, no funny sounds (touch wood), or should I RMA, will Scan accept?

    All comments appreciated.

As long as none of the pins are snapped/worn, it's fine, graphics cards use to regularly have misaligned components soldered on.

Re: Bent Graphics Card Capacitor - Concern?

On my soundcard it came with bent looking capacitors or whateva they were and it works fine. I dont think that when they get soldered on that it has to be 100% straight so I wudnt worry about it. Just do a graphics benchmark and if things work ok then you know that its fine.

Re: Bent Graphics Card Capacitor - Concern?

I don't think I have a straight cap on my sound card, aren't that many on my graphics card and they look pretty straight but not 100%

Should be fine, as long as you have informed the company that you purchased it from that you have concerns about it then it shouldn't be a problem if it does fall off and fail.

Re: Bent Graphics Card Capacitor - Concern?

As has already been mentioned as long as it, looks intact no obvious signs of damage and you don't start banging it around it should be fine. My old sound card was covered in bent capacitors like Harkin's. Come to think about it i've had a graphics card with bent capacitors aswell!

Re: Bent Graphics Card Capacitor - Concern?

Nothing to worry about, I've had bent caps before and everything works fine.

Ive even got one on my board which moves more than the others (large gfx card+small space) but still works fine like said before as long as the connection is there is solid.

Re: Bent Graphics Card Capacitor - Concern?

    Thanks All!

Was concerned as the last system I'd built for myself was a AMD Athlon 2000XP in 2002, when these first came out and to date I've not seen a single bent capacitor anywhere on any of the components. Touch wood.

    That's reassuring, so thanks again.

5-10 degrees is nothing. I've bent many a cap back from 25-45 degrees, usually without issue.

    Just leave it.

and some capacitors are bent deliberately and then strapped down on their side, to STOP then being bent back up.

    Dont fret it

Ditto-ish, I had to bend one beside my CPU socked on my old Socket A motherboard to fit the CPU Cooler I bought, did it rather gingerly but it still worked fine

So long as theres a good electrical contact, its alignment isn't a problem.
