Ebay to the rescue
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-2-0-TO-SAT...QQcmdZViewItem I bought this and it works fine
The issue is powering it - I don't have Molex on my desk!
It comes with a power adaptor :)
what about this.....?

you get it in a nice tidy box then!
It is not a perm solution more so a temp solution to grab files etc :)
... so the eBay link which Howward (and you) posted is 100% usb powered?

Top left Dave ;)
That's exactly what I bought :) It came neatly in a little box but I can't get it to all cram back in   So it just sits in a pile on top of the box :( *cries*
Do macs have standard 5.25 bays?
If so, what about a Scythe Kama Panel? Its got an internal SATA connector on the outside, as well as a lod of other stuff.
you can't do 100% USB powered for 3.5" drives
USB offers up to 500mA on 5V
a 3.5" drive will typically need 1200mA during reads
a 2.5" drive will typically need 500mA during reads
the only way to do a 3.5" drive would be to use 3 USB sockets, to pull sufficient power
right I will buy Howards one :)
