Question What kind of ram for a Q6600 and IP35pro?

    Sorry for the n00bish question guys, but I bought a G0 stepping Q6600 + abit IP35pro...

... only to realize it won't accept my old ram (533) . Yes, this is a 'a-hah' simpsons moment indeed

My question is: I'm going to the shop tomorrow. I need to know which ram I should buy that will overclock the best with this Mobo-cpu combo. I'd usually look it up myself, but since it's late I won't get the chance to do that until tomorrow - so your help is HIGHLY appreciated!!!

    TIA!!

Thanks Clunk, I got one last n00b question: can I put some PC8500+ (1066Mhz) ram in there? (sorry just a beginner here)

    Cheers!

Re: What kind of ram for a Q6600 and IP35pro?

2x1GB is the best unless you're running x64/ photoshop, video editing etc...

Ideally something with 4-4-4-12, although 5-5-5-15 is acceptable. Really for running things fast you'd want PC2-8000+ if you've got the money so you can run a higher FSB; otherwise some PC2-6400 will do the job.

It really depends what you're looking at running, and what speeds you're after, as well as budget.

YES! If you got the funds that'd be great as it'll give you lots of head room in the FSB department.

What kind of overclocks are you planning on running? As if you're not looking for much, then that RAM could be overkill...
