Logitech Z-680, any good?

Without going to the trouble of setting up a stereo system in my study, I was looking for a decent set of PC speakers for my system. Saw a lot of good reviews for the Z680s, but thought I'd see what more discerning tastes than mine had to say on the matter....so does anyone know where I might find people with more discerning tastes than mine?



Only jesting. Seriously though, what do people think, and are there any alternatives you might suggest.

I've heard they're pretty damn good PC speakers, so go for it if you like them!

Obviously I'd recommend a seperates system over any all-in-one speaker setup, but that's just me

Got a set of these myself and they are bloddy awesome. Only drawback is the proce but I'll say they're worth it!

Plug it in via the optical and you'll be laughing all the way

I've heard they have a fair amount of white noise, other than that they seem to be a nice set. I also prefer seperates.. i'm running a couple of wharfedale speakers / sony amp and it sounds Lovely!

It's like the noise you hear when your TV isn't tuned in to a station... Kinda like a crackling effect or a hissing sound...

I can't give you a more technical explanation than that though!

Theres a slight hiss that comes out of the centre speaker, but thats bout all the unwanted 'noise' that I notice. Even then you have to put your ear right up to it to hear it, nothing major.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'd love to get my head around putting a decent sound system in my study, but as this is my first computer build I'm putting together, I simply don't have the time to research all the additional aspects that avenue would open up for me...

Follow up question, since I've decided that the 5.1 is sufficient, and 7.1 overkill, it now looks like the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro would be a little bit excessive...any suggestions on a top notch sound card to accompany the speakers. I doubt I'll be doing any sampling, but looking for quality sound and comprehensive feature set...what do you think?

SoundStorm is good although if your a P4 user (or not an NForce user) then the bottom Audigy2 is probably your best bet. I found the SS better for stereo sound but the Audigy2 isn't bad by any means and EAX and surround it games is great!

I'm with alot of the others, a proper hifi will allways beat a cube system. I got Wharfedale speakers and Denon amp here

got this setup just be for xmas looking for a good cheap bit of kit that would do for both the computer and a DVd player under the TV with out having to go for the full seperates system. Has Cube systems go this is up there with the best, i would say that its a bit over kill if just being used on a computer for games but if you are watching DVD `s also yes then its worth it. In the case of the hissing problem that was on the old Rev A boards that did the 5.1 ,your unlikely to get sold one of these now all stock should be new type B now. Sound Card wise go for the oem audigy 2 not a lot of diff`s over other cards inprice range.
