    Scans current E2160, good oc'ers

    Hi,

About to buy the bits to put togther a system (entirely from scan) and I was wondering if the current shipment of E2160 are giving good OC's?

My system will comprise of the following: -

    Silverstone SG01B case
    Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R mobo
    2x1Gb Corsair
    Intel E2160 CPU
    Seagate 160Gb SATA Disk

If anyone could advise of better parts for overlcoking it would be appreciated.

    Thx,
    ManC

PS: VGA is coming later on

Scan will tell you the same, they have mixed batches from different suppliers, so no guarantees that they will be any good.

I would go with an Abit personally, but each to their own

i take it the p5k is broadly similar to a p5k3 delux, or are there big differences in layoout, oc etc?

    How about the E2180

    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/132064

I think I have read that they have the new m0 core and with a higher multi in the first place you should
be able to get it much higher much easier. And its only a few quid more.

Re: Scans current E2160, good oc'ers

It depends from generation to generation.
Back in the socket A days, there was no reason to go with any board except the NF7 range from Abit.
939 was a mix between Abit, ASUS and Gigabyte, depending on what you wanted.
775 core2 boards seems to be the same. The first Abit 775 boards were pants, but the Quad GT is considered one of the best boards out there, along with the ASUS range.
The gigabytes seem to be slipping as of later (IMO), but they do seem to be cheaper.

If you're not overclocking, it really won't make that much difference.
The only thing I have 'against' ASUS is their shockingly bad support. BIOS releases take ages, huge bugs in shipping BIOS's, plus I've never seen whats so special about them.
When you weigh up the excellent Abit support (With a UK RMA service if needed!), that includes the ability to buy spare parts, UK tech phone support and BIOS's that are regular its a no brainer for me. Uguru is also brilliant and couldn't imagine going back to a board without it.

I'm not sure why there are so many fans of ASUS - the boards don't seem to overclock any more than the rest of the bunch these days

But at the end of the day, a lot of it is down to personal preference - Remember that

Thx, honest advise, i like it, personally I'v also avoided ASUS cause of bios problems, the few Abit mobo that have passed through my fingers have behaved and looking back there the ones that have always been pretty good oc, think I'll give them a whirl this time around. Do they do a mATX s775 version that gives half decent oc'n?

Good question. Im not that up on mATX boards at the moment.

The only one I can see on Scan is here based on the 945 chipset (which is getting on now, but still perfectly functional). Its also very cheap.

I've got to dash out, but I'll have a look later if others have not.
Despite what I've said about ASUS, don't be scared to look at them and Google for relevant reviews of boards you might find. Issues seem to very hugely from board to board, for all I know they could make a better one for your situation
Ahhh the fun of buying a motherboard....its all about research
