    VOIP Telephone adaptors

US Robotics, D Link, Actiontec and a few others are offering adaptors which allow the use of a single normal phone for both VOIP and PSTN use.

They look very good on paper - perhaps too good.

Do they work as promised and does any particular model stand out? Reviews seem few and far between.

I don't know about any of the ones you mentioned, but I've got a Cisco ATA-186 and it works like a charm. It has 2 POTS ports on it but I'm only using 1 at the moment with a Sipgate account.

    Re: VOIP Telephone adaptors

I'm not sure; I have a Netgear (TA612V) that allows a conventional analogue phone to use VOIP (Sipgate). I know Netgear makes a device which utilises both PSTN and your Broadband (I think it uses Skype as the VOIP provider)
