    My PC Just died!

This time i dont know whats happened. I had Prime95 running on my q6600 at 2.7GHZ it was a constant 59C for an hour, i was browsing and listening to music and it randomly turned off. Tried to turn it on and it just doesnt.

When i take out the power and put it back and press the power button it turns on for a spit second and turns back off.

Ive taken all the bits, except the mobo, out and the battery and reset the CMOS and it still doesnt work.

Ive also take 1 RAM stick out and test on all 4 slots, done the same with the second RAM stick, still doesnt work.

Ive pretty much tried everything but it still doesnt work. Anyone got any ideas?

It *might* be the PSU. Do you get any standby lights on the motherboard? It probably won't be anything else that's failed because you'd get the beepy noise of doom warning you of hardware failure.

Try jumpsarting the PSU with a hard drive and a couple of fans attached (google it if you don't know how ). If it doesn't start, it's the culprit.

    Re: My PC Just died!

Sounds like PSU or Mobo to me. Have you got another PSU you can test with?

HAHAHA, that was funny. OK so the PSU is 'jumpstarting'. Does this mean its not the PSU? Could it be the PSU has enough power to start the fans but not the whole computer?

One other thing. So when i have the 20pin atx connector in the PC turns on for a second and turns off, when i put in the other 8pin power connector it turns on only for a split second, so what does that mean?

Not sure what was funny... A perfectly reasonable suggestion to try the PSU with a low load (but not zero load - they don't like that) and jump starting it by connectiong the two soft start pins together (which are usually connected to the front panel switch through the mobo)

Best test though is to get a second PSU and try the whole set up with that.

I found it amusing, jumpstarting the PSU not the suggestion.

I dont have another PSU, Shall i RMA the whole PC so that they can test what wrong and fix/replace anything that needs it?

OK Something just f* up. I tried taking the RAM out, had one stick in, turned on and then a spark behind the CPU, the section of 'Heatsink' two black things at the back just blew up, its made a hole in them and it smells all burnt.

    Will this affect my RMA?

How old is the machine? Where did you get it from? Is it still under warranty? Is there any evidence that you have 'tinkered' with it?

It sounds as if a capacitor or two has blown on the mobo, so definitely is worth attempting to RMA it. A lot depends on age etc.

    Re: My PC Just died!

you shouldnt have any problems RMAing it through ebuyer, they gave me a full refund on some ram recently after I'd opened it and used it for a couple of days...
