    New build doesn't boot

My new build PC doesn't seem to boot properly. Everything spins up (CPU Fan, Case fans, Graphics card fan etc). Then everything just stops!

    My components are:

    E6850 with CNPS9500 HSF
    Asus P5k-E Motherboard
    2x1GB Corsair DDR2 800Mhz
    Geforce 8800 GTX
    Western Digital 500GB SATA HD

Any ideas what could be causing it? I'm seriously stuck!

Could be a short, or a dead stick of RAM.

Try one stick of RAM at a time first, and if that isnt working, then take the board out, build it up on some cardboard and see if it starts. If it does, take out the I/O shield and snip all the bits of stray metal off it, and also go round all the motherboard standoffs and tighten them with a pair of pliers.

Tried the RAM, will take a look at the I/O shield now!

OK, had it out on cardboard, still seems to do the same thing. It powers up, everything spins up, then it stops. The PSU is a Silverstone OP750 btw. Any more ideas? Could the CPU not be installed correctly or something?

    Re: New build doesn't boot

OK well it's not the hard drive so from the info you've given that leaves:

    Mobo
    CPU
    Graphics Card
RAM (less likely if you've tried one at a time)

You need to eliminate each of these to be sure. Have you are spare graphics card (PCI-E or PCI), old CPU, etc. I'm sure if you asked around you'd be able to find something for testing purposes.

Let us know how this develops.
