    Quiet case & psu

    Hello everyone
I'm just looking to see what you think the best deal is for a low budget case & PSU. They don't have to be bought together, but either way I've only got a budget of about £40, so I'm not expecting anything spectacular! I'd rather have a quiet case & unreliable PSU than vice versa, but I'm open to any available options you come up with!

Thanks for all your help hexusites

    Hello jackofalltrades

Well i shall look into it for you, but i can instantly recomend the antec sonata 2.

its £70 which is more than you said, but its a very silent well built case with dust filters plus antec do not skimp on the PSU, they put a 450w PSU with it, which is very good.

my dad has this with a C2D , 2gb mem , asus p5b deluxe , 7900gt , 2 hard drives etc and its just fine

    Re: Quiet case & psu

If you want to stick closer to your budget, you could do a lot worse than an Antec NSK4400, which comes with a 380W PSU. Used one in a build recently, and i was impressed by the noise levels. Although I do think Antec's normally great build quality has dipped slightly.

    Re: Quiet case & psu

You should be able to get a HEC 300 Watt or FSP/Fortron PSU from ebay for £15 or less. That leaves you with £25 for a case.

I've built a couple of systems in Antec SLK3000B and have been quite impressed with them. I would like to build a system in a Centurion to test the case but haven't had a chance yet.

Edit: with money left over a NSK4000 from Scan for £28.19?

Well there's no real point sugesting any PSU untill we know what it's going to power.
I'd rather have a quiet case & unreliable PSU than vice versa
Please think about that for a moement, I'd much perfur haveing something a bit noisey than something that will go bang in a month and take graphics card,CPU,motherboard&RAM with it when it dies.

ok, its powering an athlon xp 1800+, i think 1gb ram, (maybe 512mb), geforce ti4200, +1 dvd-rom drive, not sure what the mobo is at the mo...
It's just a spare pc for the parents to use.
I know i don't want a dead pc in a month, but i reckon if you take a crap psu supplier (q-tec?), the ratio of dead psu's at worst is 50/50? that is ok with me but yeah again like i said open to ideas for better psu's.

EDIT: thanks pie, but £70 is too much over the budget

    Re: Quiet case & psu

I have an NSK4400, and it's a great case and the PSU seems decent enough. Running Core2, 2x 250GB HDDs, 8800GTS and DVDRW. No bother at all and the machine is on 24/7.

There are cheaper, and there are more expensive, but I can't imagine the 4400 being any less quality than would you would get in a Dell or HP machine.

If you're going to skimp on PSU, then get a FSP PSU, they're cheap but they're a lot more reliable than crappy Q-Tec. FSP power supplies actually are pretty good quality, they build in massive bulk (and supply most OEM computer companies) so they're able to sell at lower prices.

    Re: Quiet case & psu

with thoes specs you can get away with any half decent PSU
    350W FSP £26
    or
400w Silverpower SP-400P2C £24.50 (looks like a cheap job but from what I've read it's ok, price is kept down buy passive PFC and ATX 1.1 so it's only got a single +12v rail at 18a which isn't going to run a x1950pro but a ti4200 will be fine)

    Re: Quiet case & psu

For a quiet psu, you really can't go wrong with any of the Corsair range. The HX520 is very quiet indeed (I have one), and the VX450 is even quieter apparently.

So, if you are looking low budget, quality and quietness all combined, you really won't beat the VX450. Some links for you:

    Re: Quiet case & psu

Fraz, corsair+antec is what I would recommend, but this combo requests a higher investment., Aidanjt is right about fortron+antec. However, jackofalltrades, the sonata2 suggested by pie_uk already comes with a good psu, so 70quids is not that much for both a case and psu, imo.
