    Help, I need a new mobo,cpu,ram & gfx :( It died...

Uuurrgghhh.... My trusty old MSI 7025 has finally snuffed it, taking my 3200+ cpu with it.

My PSU, HDDs, Case & DVDs are fine, so I just need a new mobo, cpu (with fan if I don't use the Freezer Pro), RAM and a GFX card.

My old kit for comparison : AMD 64 3200 single core, Arctic Freezer Pro, 2GB Corsair XMS2, x1600 GFX card (AGP).

I really cannot afford the expense of C2D, and am happy to go with (non overclocked) AMD AM2 cpu.

So, looking at an AM2 AMD 64 4600 X2 cpu as a starter, what are my options ?

I really need stability over all else as I run some pretty awkward SW, and like to view HD movies. I also do music recording and large photo and video processing so some speed would be good too .

    Mobo ?

    2GB RAM.

    GFX (silent, or very quiet)

Budget - no more than £250 all in (and that will leave me totally skint)

    TIA
    Cheers, David

you might be better getting 775 with a e2140/e2160/2180

    since am2 would mean ddr2

775 seem more future proof too me and seen some good reviews on the 2140/60/80

    LN19109 256MB Power Color Radeon X1650 Pro £40.58
    LN11596 2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800)£58.62

You've taken a big jump from the AMD to an E6550. I would suggest looking at the E4x00 range, as they seem to have a better bang for buck, although the e21xx seems like even better value.

i would still suggest the e2160 or e2180. A bit of mild overclocking and you get awsome performance for the price. This will knock another 50-60 quid off your price, bringing you down to nearly £200 - I just did the very same but bought an Asus p5k-SE - dont know what it's like yet because scan will deliver it tomorrow. [the e2160 is great tho - had that a while but bought a crap, cheap mobo - at least you wont make that mistake!]

Fair enough. I would have bought an e2160 or e2180 has they been available at the time.

I would spend less on the CPU, and more on the other components. The money saved on CPU would get you a x1950 which would probably make a bigger difference than the CPU (assuming you clocked the e2160/80 to a reasonable but not excessive level)

    Re: Help, I need a new mobo,cpu,ram & gfx :( It died...

Actually for the things he uses it for spending more on the cpu and less on the graphics card is better.
You only really need the graphics card for gameing, that's it.
The only other thing to look at is HD encodeing. the x1600 is the best dx9 card for that if I remember correctly.
    for a dx10 card 8600gt or HD2600 (?I think?)

If you add games into the mix that changes things.
