Need help spending my student loan!

Hey guys ive been reading on the hardcore forums for a few weeks now but im no closer to buying something! I will be ordering my stuff next week and need a hand please

Ok so i know i want the new intel Q6600 so i can overclock it. And i know i want an nvidia 8800gts but thats all i know.

Im lost with the ram and motherboard as there is to be honest so much to choose from since i last went shopping! I will be overclocking on air cooling but i doubt ill need the top top top end ram! I want 2GB of it. But im not understanding all these different speeds im seeing on the scan website.

I also would like a new monitor as my 19inch is getting old so if u can reccomend one then please let me know.

I still have the computer in my sig below so i will still use some of them parts like case, soundcard, optical drives etc

So a list of what i feel i need is

CPU with a cooler for it
RAM
Motherboard
Graphics
Monitor (pref widescreen)
Power supply? (dont think my enermex 620W would be enough?)

Dont think ive left anything out^^ ?

I will also be adding a 750GB and a 500GB hard drive to the list.

I have £1000 tops to spend but as a student if i can save then that would be handy

Do you really need upgrading...
Afterall it is a loan you know.

If you really have to upgrade, I would say a 2407WFP-HC + Q6600. Your PSU will handle it easily.

You might as well buy a Shuttle, sell all your whole system, keep the raptor and get Dual 750G eSATA.

P.S. I do have mates who spend a hundred quids on alcohol per week regularly

The system you have is not too shabby, looks like you are just keen on the quad core

First point would be that unless you are doing some hardcore computer modelling/rendering or encoding videos you don't see much more out of the quads. Sure it's nice to have, but beer is gonna be vastly more important...

If you need the speed you could get a mid range Core2Duo, and any P35 board, almost all of them will overclock sublimely, and you tend to get more headroom out of dual cores.

Keep the rest of what you have and get a good quality 22inch monitor with the money saved, I believe samsung are currently cream of the crop.

I don't think you will see any particular performance gain over what you have now. Consider saving the money for a while and getting an even better PC when you actually need it.

well my gcard is not fast enough for games anymore and sumpreme commander does not run like i would like it too. It jumps etc when too much is going on. And i really do need a new screen. Any recommendations?

Q6600 + scythe Ninja rev B = £200
Abit IP-35 / Pro = £85 / £120
2GB PC6400 (crucial ballstix on ocuk £65)
8800GTS/X £170 / £325
your psu is fine.

If you go with a decent 22" monitor circa £200 you only need the 8800GTS if you go 24" you'll want the GTX and the monitor will be at least £315..so in the interest of getting a decent pc and saving money I would go GTS + 22" monitor.

What about just a 8800GTS and the LG screen as per above? As they are items you'd probably get anyway, might not be a bad idea to try upgrading what you have already?

egads, am I reading your sig correctly? you've currently got 7 hard drives?
1.246tb in total and you need more?

And if you are considering that monitor I'd also consider a fully adjustable monitor stand they are very nice.

yep i have 1.3 tb or somthin full. looking tog et a few bigger ones to get rid of the smaller ones

I would suggest that rather than spanking your loan. Given that your current system is more than capable, just buy a new monitor and graphics card and leave it at that. Your current mobo, RAM and CPU are more than adequate for a GTS
