I am going to upgrade the ram in my friends pc which uses DDR1. His motherboard supports max speed of pc2100. However, pc2100 is more expensive than pc2700 memory.
Can I use a pc2700 memory and it will work but at the slower speed of pc2100?
Thanks

Yes.
Thanks for the quick reply. I knew ddr2 memory could run at slower than the rated speeds, but just wasnt sure about ddr1
Could anybody else please just confirm again that it should work so that I can be sure before I buy it?
Thanks

The computer I'm using right now has PC3200 (DDR400) running at PC2700 (DDR 333) speeds, because that's the fastest the processor supports. The motherboard supports PC3200, so I actually had to manually select PC2700 in the BIOS, but other than that, it is the same situation as yours.![]()

Yeah, good point.
What's the motherboard? You should be able to look all this stuff up on the manufacturer's website if you want to be really certain.
