Does it matter what combo ?
I was mixing manufacturer RAM, and am now opting for 4GB all same manufacturer....it's cheaper to by 4 x 1GB........
thoughts ?

Guess it depends whether you'll upgrade the RAM during the lifetime of the motherboard. 2x 2gb at least gives you room to add more without 'discarding' anything. Don't think there are any performance disadvantages, assuming your mobo supports 4x2gb or bigger.

I've also heard of some difficulties with 4 x 1GiB but check your motherboard & RAM combo. Personally I would go for 2x2GiB as it allows flexibilty
I have 4x 1GB in my P5B...POST says only 3GB though...
I know that Corsair's Yellowbeard always recommends 2x2Gb over 4x 1Gb.
Generally speaking, 2x is better than 4x when it comes to RAM.

Last time I posted specs for a Quad build, I asked the same questions and at the time, most people pointed me more towards 4 x 1GB sticks and being able to get tighter timings for o/c'ing.
I found this 2x2gb on amazon - which is a great price and the same as the 4x1gb. But 4-6 weeks for delivery!

Somebody once said it could potentially be slower to have 4 sticks rather than two. Something to do with the memory controller having to access more... dunno though.
