    Just a few questions

hi i just built a pc and i just had a few questions to get the most out of my system:

    1. i have windows vista 64 bit and ati tool wouldnt install properly, so how do i monitor my graphic card temperature as if i touch it is quite hot, and thats just when running a film, and how would i go about overclocking it.

    2. i have my hdd plugged into sata port 1, and my 2 cd drives plugged into plug 2 and 5 on the mobo. Is this correct? will plugging my hdd into a different port increase performance?

    3. my hdd is currently in the drive cage, with the sticker facing upwards. Should it be the other way? like upside down.

    4. My 2x2Gb ram slots are currently slotted into the black slots (dimm a2 and dimm b2). which ones should they be plugged in to?

thank you very much in advance for any comment or help. its much appreciated.

    Try using Rivatuner

Shouldn't make a difference which port you use.

You've got it the right way

Not 100% sure, but it sounds likes you've got it right. Is it showing as running in dual channel?
    As above

    Re: Just a few questions

I would have thought the RAM goes into A1 and B1 first for dual channel mode. Though I can't imagine it'd make too much difference putting into A2 and B2 instead. Just not A1 A2 or B1 B2.

    Re: Just a few questions

    just installed rivatuner
and it showed my gfx core temp to be at 63 degrees at idle. and i got it up to 74 degrees when running 3d mark. i looked at it between tests. (is that ok?)
is there any other way to test graphics to the MAX and also view the temp of the gfx core temp?

    Re: Just a few questions

ye my fans are working really well i think.
i mean the antec 900 is known for its good air flow. all my fans are on low atm, but it still seems to pump alot of air around.
jus playin wid my rivatuner now and i set the fan at 100% work all the time, and now my idle is 52.
but it wud be too noisy. may run it at 60 odd percent.
also how do i overclock it usin rivatuner?

You can leave rivatuner running during the benchmark and set it to record. When the bench is done, you can review the graph and see the peak temps.

As for the temps you've already posted above, for a GTX they're fine - exactly GTX territory

    Re: Just a few questions

I wouldn't overclock a GTX unless your going to use watercooling. Your GTX should eat up any games for the moment anyway and I doubt you'd get much if any benefit by overclocking the card using the standard cooling arrangement.

Take the plunge into the watercooling realm or leave it as stock would be my advice : )

Rivatuner is one of the best overclocking tools out there. You've already got that too.

As mentioned above, I wouldnt bother overclocking, you wont see a difference in games, only benchmarks.

As for temps, I wouldnt really want mine going much over 80c. You need watercooling on a GTX to really start opening up the overclocking side of things.

    Re: Just a few questions

TBH, those temps aren't hot, seem to be par for the course with the 8800's generally.

My GTS is 60 ish out of the box and easily tops 80 under load, this had not led to any problems, except for a warm leg next to the outlet fan!

in rivatuner does the "auto speed fan control rule" run on the core temp of the gfx card or the ambient temp?
